The Vision

Sanctuary for the
Restless Mind

In our fast-paced urban environments, we are constantly overstimulated by sights, sounds, and messages. Our nervous system is kept in a perpetual state of reaction. The Rural Dhyana Mandhira represents Blissmaya’s contemplative and restorative vision in a setting that is deeply nature-connected.

It is intended as a physical space for silence, reflection, and meditation — offering a sanctuary away from daily speed and friction. Built with minimal ecological footprint, it serves as a canvas where you can re-align with the natural cycles of the earth.

"Silence is not the absence of sound, but the presence of undivided attention."

— Blissmaya Foundation
Core Philosophy

Why We Retreat

Retreating is not escaping. It is turning back to what is essential. By taking a brief step out of our daily contexts, we clear the static and allow the deeper, quieter currents of the mind to emerge.

  • Sensory Fasting: Giving the eyes, ears, and mind a complete rest from screens and noise.
  • Somatic Integration: Linking breath, posture, and still environments to recalibrate the nervous system.
  • Conscious Living: Experiencing a simple, slow, and mindful rhythm of sleeping, eating, and breathing.
Dimensions of Practice

Four Pathways to Stillness

The Mandhira does not prescribe dogmatic routines. We offer simple, time-tested modalities to foster awareness and renewal.

🌿

Mauna

The practice of silence. Quietening spoken language and digital input to open up the inner senses and observe the nature of thoughts.
🧘

Dhyana

Meditation in group settings or in private alcoves. Cultivating a steady, unbroken gaze inwards utilizing breath and somatic support.
🚶

Vana Chankamana

Mindful forest walking. Moving slowly along designated dirt trails, synchronizing steps with breath, fully awake to the sensory landscape.
🏡

Sva-Dhyaya

Restorative retreats. Spend a day, a weekend, or a week in guided isolation, supported by natural foods, simple lodgings, and soft guidelines.

The Setting & Architecture

Designed to Blend,
Built to Ground

Located in a quiet rural setting away from urban corridors, the Mandhira's structures are built using earth, local stone, and sustainable timber. The design prioritises open ventilation, natural light, and organic textures.

  • 01

    Open-Air Dhyana Hall

A spacious timber hall with screens that slide away, letting in the sound of nesting birds and the gentle rustle of leaves.

  • 02

    The Reflection Pool

A circular stone water body positioned at the heart of the retreat, serving as a focal point for evening Trataka gazing and visual centering.

  • 03

    Eco-Cottages

Minimalist, mud-plastered accommodation pods that keep cool naturally, offering simple bedding, a writing desk, and private meditation spaces.

The Process

A Day in the Mandhira

While retreats can be self-guided, we provide a soft structural baseline for visitors to lean into.

06:00 AM — Dawn

Dawn Gathering & Pranayama

We begin the day in silence as the sun rises. A light, guided breathwork session prepares the lungs and system, followed by 30 minutes of silent meditation in the hall.

09:00 AM — Morning

Vana Chankamana (Forest Walk)

After a simple nourishing breakfast, visitors are guided on a slow, sensory walk through the forest trails, exploring walking meditation as a somatic anchor.

02:30 PM — Afternoon

Sva-Dhyaya (Self-Directed Reflection)

The afternoon is kept completely unstructured. Visitors are encouraged to read, write, rest in their cottages, or gaze at the reflection pool in silent contemplation.

06:00 PM — Dusk

Dusk Trataka & Integration

As daylight fades, we gather around the pool or in the hall for a candle-gazing (Trataka) session, settling the nervous system before entering evening rest.

There are no televisions, air conditioners, or high-power electric devices — keeping distraction to an absolute minimum.

We serve simple, satvik, vegetarian meals prepared using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The food is mild, nourishing, and supportive of contemplative and meditative practices. Special dietary requirements can be discussed prior to arrival.

+

No, the Mandhira welcomes everyone. Whether you are a seasoned meditator or looking to experience silence for the first time, our coordinators provide appropriate guidance and a safe container for your practice.
